Where Art Met Cinema | Vidya Balan & Aditya Roy Kapur at AOI

Project type

Cinematography

Date

March, 2023

Location

Worli, Mumbai

This project documents the Art of India Exhibition, Mumbai (2023) — a large-scale cultural showcase celebrating contemporary Indian art, presented in partnership with The Times of India. The exhibition brought together artists, curators, and audiences in a thoughtfully curated space where art, conversation, and presence came together.

My role was to visually capture the essence of the exhibition — the scale of the artwork, the energy of the space, and the quiet, unscripted moments that defined the experience. Alongside the exhibits, the event was graced by Vidya Balan and Aditya Roy Kapur, and I recorded candid interactions and brief moments with them within the exhibition environment, keeping the focus rooted in the art rather than spectacle.

The visual approach was intentionally observational and cinematic — using movement, natural light, and real reactions to create footage that feels immersive and authentic. Instead of treating the exhibition as a conventional event, the aim was to translate its mood and rhythm into a visual narrative that allows viewers to experience the space as it felt in real time.

Covering a cultural exhibition of this scale and significance was both creatively fulfilling and professionally meaningful. This project reflects my approach to event and cultural storytelling — capturing not just what happened, but how it felt to be there.
